How the Program Works
Sometimes families are already without housing and are staying temporarily with relatives or friends. Family Promise works with each family to determine whether that arrangement is safe and sustainable, then provides the support they need to remain safely housed while working toward long-term solutions.
- Safe Temporary Living: Our goal is to help families remain in short-term housing situations that are safe and supportive.
- Stability Planning: Our team provides case management, resources, and guidance to strengthen the family’s path toward independence.
- Path to Permanent Housing: While families stay temporarily with loved ones, we work alongside them to secure their own permanent housing.
What Families Receive:
Family Promise of West Michigan helps families facing housing crises with care and compassion. We prevent homelessness and guide families toward stability, essential resources, and a hopeful future.
Impact & Outcomes
Through diversion support, families avoid entering shelter altogether, keeping children in safe, stable homes. By addressing housing challenges early, shelter space is preserved for those in urgent crisis, and families gain the tools and resources needed to maintain long-term stability.

Early Childhood Services
Young children experience homelessness differently from adults. Family Promise provides specialized support for kids, including:
- Educational Resources: Navigation support to preschool programs, tutoring, and enrichment activities.
- Social-Emotional Support: Family engagement activities and parenting coaching to help children process stress.
- Healthy Development: Support for physical, cognitive, and emotional growth, ensuring kids continue to thrive even in times of housing instability.
